House in Polniky

Dolna Suca – Polniky, Slovakia
Design 2013

Polniky is small agricultural rural settlement, administratively part of Dolna Suca, larger village in close proximity to county town Trencin (western Slovakia).
After first two decades after 1989, many such Slovak villages were significantly affected by bursting building boom and have become satellites of larger cities. On the contrary Polniky, due to its natural hilly setting and isolation, was affected by this phenomenon only slightly.
Of course large percentage of population left former way of agricultural life behind and village suffers out-migration. Newly built edifices are scarce.
Even despite that, it has very strong character that requires careful approach and is worth of protection even despite there are no authoritative directions for that.
